Terms of Use

Wooordje is a tool for learning Dutch vocabulary using spaced repetition. Using it means agreeing to what is on this page. If you do not, do not use it — and if you already have an account, you can delete it from Settings.

• One person, one account — an account is for a person, not a class or a team.
• A working email address — it is how we send verification, password resets, and the cancellation link if a deletion is ever requested on your account.
• Your password is yours to keep — anything done with your password is treated as done by you. If you think somebody else has it, change it from Settings — and if you have forgotten it, Settings can email you a reset link even while you are signed in.
• 16 or over — Wooordje is not aimed at children.

Do not:

• Use it to harass anyone — the deck-share feature sends email to an address you type. Sending unwanted mail through it is not on, and it is rate limited in both directions for that reason.
• Upload unlawful or infringing material — including text or audio you do not have the right to publish.
• Scrape or hammer the service — the API is rate limited. Working around those limits, or running load against the service, is a misuse of it.
• Try to reach other people’s private content — private decks are private.

You keep ownership of the decks, cards and notes you create. To run the service we need permission to store them and show them back to you, and that is all the permission a private deck ever gives.

Publishing a deck is different, and it lasts. When you make a deck public, other people can copy it into their own accounts and study from it. That grants us a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free licence to keep hosting it and to keep serving the copies other people have already made — including after you delete your account, at which point your name is removed from it.

The reason is practical rather than legal: a public deck somebody is halfway through a course with should not vanish because its author closed their account. If you would rather it did not outlive you here, unpublish or delete the deck before you delete the account.

The official word catalogue, the levels, the textbook chapters and the application itself remain ours. You may use them to learn Dutch, including exporting them for your own study in another tool. You may not republish the catalogue as your own.

The service is provided as it is. It comes with no warranty that it will be available, correct, or free of mistakes — the vocabulary included. Do not rely on it for anything where being wrong matters, such as an exam answer you cannot check.

There is a free plan, and it is the one you get by signing up. Paid plans may be offered alongside it. Nothing here charges you by default: an account only becomes paid if you choose a paid plan and confirm it.

• What it costs — what a plan includes and what it costs, including tax, is shown before you confirm. That screen, not this page, is the price.
• Cancelling — a paid plan can be cancelled at any time, from Settings, without asking anyone. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period already paid for.
• If the price changes — an existing plan keeps its price until the change is announced and the next renewal falls due. A price change is never applied to a period already paid for.
• Ending an account — freezing or deleting an account cancels any paid plan on it. Paid time already used is not refunded, and freezing does not pause a renewal — cancel the plan first if that is what you meant.

If you are a consumer in the EU you have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase within fourteen days. Where a paid plan starts immediately, you may be asked to agree that it starts before that period ends, which ends the right once the service has been supplied. Nothing on this page removes a right the law gives you.

• You, at any time — freeze the account to close it reversibly, or delete it. Both are in Settings, and neither needs to be asked for. Either one cancels a paid plan — see above for what that does and does not refund.
• Us, if we have to — an account may be suspended or removed for breaking the rules above, in particular for using the share feature to send unwanted mail or for publishing unlawful material. Where it is reasonable to, we will say why.

What survives either kind of ending is set out in the Privacy Policy, and the two pages are meant to be read together.

These terms may change; the date at the top says when they last did, and a change that affects your rights will be announced on the site. Dutch law applies, and the courts of the Netherlands have jurisdiction.
